I Think I’m Making Progress

Well, I’ve been walking at least 2 miles a day !!!  I have been eating much less than I was before.  Now my mom keeps my sister’s food away from me at all times!  This picture shows my dad holding me on the scale.  When he was holding me we both weighed 201 pounds.  When he put me down and weighed himself, he only weighed 161 pounds.  I have two questions for you.  First, how much do I weigh now?  Second, how much weight did I lose from the last time?

Help Me Get In Shape !!!

As you can see, I am not being a very healthy dog!!  My mommy and daddy have decided they want to help me lose some weight and get into shape.  There are a few important reasons why I need to get in shape.  Number 1 Reason:  I will feel better !!  Number 2 Reason:  I will live longer !!  Number 3 Reason:  I don’t want to get stuck in my doggie door !!

Boys and girls– can you help me with something?  Can you help me figure out how much I weigh right now?  The problem is I am too big to stand on a little bathroom scale by myself.  So, my mommy picked me up and stood on the scale while she was holding me.  The scale read 190 pounds when she did this.  THEN– she put me down and weighed just herself– 145 pounds.  Can you figure out how much I weigh??

For the next month, I will be eating less food at every meal (mostly because my parents have figured out how to stop me from eating my sister’s food every day).  Also, most importantly, I will be taking 2 extra walk/jogs each day.  Calvin and William, my human brothers, will do this.  THEN– I will get weighed again next week and the week after that.  My goal is to lose between about between 5 and 7 pounds.  Do you think I can do it?????  I REALLY REALLY hope so.

Boys and girls– please help me by figuring out what I weigh now and check in with me on my blog from time to time to see how I am doing.  I am so excited to get healthy !!

Dogs- Then and Now

Hello boys and girls. Did you know that long, long ago dogs were very useful to people? When people lived in “camps” (like Jamestown), dogs were used to alert the people if there were intruders (look that word up in the dictionary). Dogs were also used to watch over children.  Dogs were used for hunting.  Dogs were used to keep people warm at night. Have you ever heard of a “three dog night?” This is an old Australian phrase which means the night was cold and three dogs were needed to sleep with to keep warm. Have you ever snuggled with your dog at night to keep warm? Even today we use dogs for these same kinds of things. But, long ago, people depended on dogs for their survival (look that word up, too).
Here are a few pictures for you. The first is an old picture of a man with his hunting Beagle dogs. The second picture is a painting of hunting dogs and their owners in the year 1305. The last picture is a dog looking after a little boy.  How are dogs useful to us today?

So you are learning about shapes and forms?

I heard you went on a special scavenger hunt for shapes today? I bet you found all kinds of interesting   shapes in nature and in the community. When you look at my face, what shapes do you see? Is my face symmetrical?  Here’s a picture of my water and food bowls- what shapes and forms do you see in the picture– look carefully?

Hello Children

I have missed all of you very much!  I hope you had a great summer.  For those of you who have not met me, my name is Spot and I love to visit Mrs. Pape’s class.  I live with Calvin on Milford Road.  Here is a picture of my house.

Calvin helps to take care of me every day.  He feeds me my breakfast and dinner and takes me for walks.  I live with Calvin, Calvin’s mom and dad, and Calvin’s brother, William.  I also have a sister-dog named Casey and three brother-gerbils named Midnight, Cutie, and Ernie.  Here are pictures of Casey and the three gerbils.

.

During the day I usually spend time sleeping and hanging out in my backyard.  My favorite thing to do is go on walks around the neighborhood.  On my walks I see squirrels, birds, other dogs, cats, mommies, daddies, babies, cars, trucks, and bicycles.  When I see another dog or a young child, usually I can’t help myself.  I whine and cry until they come say hello to me.

Last year my mom started bringing me into your classroom to visit with you and listen to you read and learn.  I REALLY love doing that.  I can’t wait to see how much you have grown now that you are second-graders.

This year I may not visit every week but I do want to communicate with you as much as possible.  You see, I can’t talk like you can but my mom has agreed to write down what I am thinking so I can share that with you.  I am hoping you will want to write notes to me on this blog or in the dog bowl I am leaving in the classroom.  I promise I will write back as soon as I get your notes.  Also, I will leave some funny pictures and other cool things on this blog for you to see from time to time.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me a note or comment telling me a little about yourself so I can remember.
